Dr Tim Kana, CSE’s founder and president, received the Morrough P O’Brien Award from the American Shore & Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) at the 2015 National Conference in New Orleans (LA). This is ASBPA’s highest award and recognizes leaders in the field who have contributed significantly to the advancement of ASBPA’s mission to preserve, protect, and enhance our coasts. Kana was cited for lifetime achievement “linking academic … understanding with real-world solutions to coastal erosion and management issues.” Named after the “father of coastal engineering” in the US, the annual O’Brien Award has been given to a ‘who’s who’ of the profession over the past 25 years. In his remarks at the ASBPA Awards banquet, Kana mentioned the influence that Professor O’Brien had as a reviewer of one of CSE’s projects for the US Army Corps of Engineers. “I have been fortunate in my career to study with great scientists, work in many coastal settings, and implement innovative projects which have helped preserve many beaches.”
