At a Glance

CSE evaluated erosion, beach loss, and shoreline structures at Vista Mar Golf & Beach Resort to understand the coastal processes driving shoreline change. Through field observations, sediment testing, and analysis of tides, waves, and beach profiles, CSE developed a site-specific restoration strategy tailored to local conditions. The recommendations provided a practical framework for rebuilding the beach, stabilizing the shoreline, and supporting long-term management.

Reversing Severe Beach Loss at a Dynamic Pacific Coastline

Persistent shoreline erosion and beach narrowing threatened the long-term stability, recreational value, and oceanfront infrastructure of Vista Mar Golf & Beach Resort. The site's complex wave climate, sediment transport patterns, and highly variable tidal conditions made it difficult to isolate the causes of erosion. The challenge was to define a sustainable restoration approach that worked with the site's natural coastal processes.

Challenge

Science-Based Analysis Driving Practical Restoration

CSE combined field reconnaissance, sediment sampling, shoreline observations, and coastal process evaluations to identify the factors driving erosion and beach instability. The team assessed existing shoreline structures, sediment characteristics, and restoration alternatives to develop a practical, site-specific restoration plan. The recommendations also established guidance for adaptive management and future monitoring to support long-term beach performance.

Approach

A Framework for Sustainable Shoreline Management

CSE provided a practical blueprint for restoring and sustaining Vista Mar's beach while improving shoreline stability. The recommendations equipped the owner with a science-based plan for beach nourishment, shoreline improvements, and ongoing performance monitoring. By defining both immediate restoration priorities and long-term management strategies, the project positioned the resort for greater coastal resilience.
