Overcoming Fragmented Ownership and Storm-Driven Shoreline Loss
Successive hurricanes and winter storm seasons stripped protective dunes and narrowed the beach, leaving oceanfront properties increasingly exposed. The absence of a single governing entity created complex coordination, funding, and permitting challenges across multiple private owners. Limited historical survey data and active inlet-driven sand movement added technical uncertainty, making it difficult to define a clear, buildable restoration path.
Coordinated Restoration in Complex Ownership Settings
Regional data, historical mapping, and adjacent shoreline performance were leveraged to define sand deficits and develop a practical restoration design despite limited site-specific surveys. Intensive coordination with individual property owners and regulatory agencies streamlined permitting and aligned participation across a fragmented project area. Construction was strategically sequenced and paired with a nearby effort to maximize contractor efficiency, accelerate delivery, and generate significant cost savings.
