Approximately 479,000 cubic yards of sand were successfully placed to restore 1.6 miles of Arcadian Shores through a locally funded beach renourishment initiative. Completed between May and June 2026, the project exceeded its design volume of 450,000 cubic yards, enhancing storm protection and beach performance along approximately 8,500 linear feet of shoreline from Singleton Swash to Apache Pier.
Precision Dredging and Strategic Dune Restoration
An ocean-certified hopper dredge excavated compatible sand from an offshore borrow area located approximately 2.5 miles offshore and transported it to the beach through a submerged pumpout line. The sand was shaped to match the engineered beach profile, while dune construction reinforced priority shoreline segments and strengthened long-term shoreline stability.
Construction also included management of Singleton Swash through temporary excavation and pilot channel construction, allowing efficient sand placement while maintaining environmental safeguards and restoring a more stable, functional shoreline.
Efficient, Locally Funded Coastal Protection
Completed on schedule in just over a month of active sand placement, the project represents the third beach renourishment effort for Arcadian Shores. The successful restoration reflects the continued partnership between Horry County and the City of Myrtle Beach to protect public beach access, strengthen coastal infrastructure, and preserve the shoreline for years to come.
